We’ve all had times when a conversation has failed to achieve its goal. Maybe we wanted to resolve an issue, state our case, be heard, or feel connected but it all fell flat. Conversations can so easily shift from a positive, adult-like interaction into a negative one where a spectacular childish tantrum is thrown! Why does this happen? In this session we’ll discuss Transactional Analysis which helps explain how people function and express their personality through their interactions and reactions. The theory draws on ego states (parent-like, child-like, or adult-like) as a basis for understanding behaviour – it’s hilariously enlightening!

The value to us all in understanding this theory is that we can alter our own ego state at any point in time to influence a better and healthier response. We can minimise the impact of our own and others’ inappropriate and displaced emotions, and also influence how they are being with us. We can decide to be more ‘adult’ in any given moment rather than instinctively behaving like a controlling parent or wayward child. This is so fascinating and very useful, whether you’re a leader wanting to shift a culture or a parent needing different outcomes. Are you ready to learn it? Don’t be put off by the word ‘theory.’ You will wish this session was longer!
