Quote of the day

This one means a lot to our founding director
Blog 252 Marianne Williamson quote

Hello there. Some of you may know a little of my personal story. About 12 years ago, I very suddenly and unexpectedly found myself a single mum to three little people. At the time, I had no idea I’d end up raising my children with full custody, all while stepping into a very big adventure, both personally and professionally. Something that helped me enormously through this period was the following quote from Marianne Williamson, a printout of which took (and still takes) pride of place on my office wall:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? … Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do … And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others”.

If you’re anything like me, it’s far easier to focus on the things you’re not proud of or wish you could do better (your darkness), than to acknowledge and celebrate your authentic self and potential (your light).

Back when life was topsy-turvy, it would’ve made sense for me to get a secure job. Instead, somewhere amid all the tears and anxiety, I decided I wasn’t going to play life small. I wanted my children to see their mum ‘go big’ and shine – to know I wouldn’t let fear determine what our lives would look like.

I encourage you to take some time today to think about your own life. Are you playing big, or are you playing small? Are you letting fear hold you back from doing something significant? How will you let your own light shine?
