Quote of the day

Explore. Dream. Discover!

This is an important sentiment for us here at The Coach Place (regardless of whether Mark Twain actually said or wrote these words – a hotly debated topic).

It ties in perfectly with the ‘verandah test’ we often encourage our clients to take: to ask themselves what their future, 80-year-old self, sitting on the verandah, would want to be able to remember, say, think, do and feel about the life they’ve lived.

Chances are, when you’re looking back on your life in the years to come, you’re not going to regret the things you did, but rather the things you never felt brave or ‘ready enough’ to try. This isn’t about living a regret-free life – it’s about being inspired to take action – to believe you’re capable of being, doing and achieving much more than you can possibly imagine. And to go after what you really want.

Have a think about the things that have always been on the top of your ‘big picture’ to-do list. Is it taking a year off to live in another country? Is it writing a book? Is it doing a total career pivot and returning to study? Ask yourself:

  • What dreams do I have that could become a reality if I just made the decision to do/to go/to start?
  • What resources do I have access to?
  • What experiences will enrich my life?
  • How can I be brave and stretch myself, get out of my comfort zone, and do new things and have new thoughts?
  • What are the greatest ‘experiences’ I could give myself?
  • When I’m 80, what will my best memories be?

Don’t get stuck in the safe harbour. Get out there and explore!
